Ban Ki-moon lauds Japan for resuming support to international operations in Afghanistan
12 January 2008 - Recognizing the obstacles that Afghanistan and the international community faced last year, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has voiced his appreciation to the Government of Japan for resuming its activities to support efforts to rebuild and bolster security in the strife-torn nation.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson yesterday, Mr. Ban welcomed Japan's decision to recommence its activities to support operations "which, together with Afghan security forces, are assisting the Government of Afghanistan to bring security and development to its people."
The Secretary-General also noted that he is "thankful to all those Member States contributing troops and assets to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force and international forces in Afghanistan."
