Summary of Thailand's Assistance to Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis

Current Assistance

Thailand has done its best to assist Myanmar. Total assistance: worth approximately 12.32 million USD (382 million baht), both in kind and in cash. (inclusive of transportation cost)

Assistance in cash: approximately 323,900 USD from both government and private sectors as well as public donation.

Assistance in kind: categories

* foodstuffs, drinking water, powder milk, kitchenware, water filter machines, water purification tablets;

* medicine and medical supplies;

* tents, plastic sheets, construction tools and materials;

* survival kits;

* diesel fuel, electrical equipment, electrical generators;

* satellite phones

* hovercraft

Up to 4 June 2008, 19 flights of emergency relief aid and supply have been sent to Myanmar.

Thailand sent 2 medical teams, each comprising 30 medical personnel, medicine and medical supply to Myanmar on 17 and 29 May 2008. The medical team comprises surgeons, psychiatrists, epidemiologists, orthopedists, disease control officials, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and nurses.

Thailand will continue to send help and relief aid for the longer-term rehabilitation and reconstruction, both through bilateral channels and regional frameworks, i.e. ASEAN.

Also provide the following for post-immediate relief as requested by Myanmar Prime Minister.

* water pumps;- fiber-glass boats;

* mechanical plough (by the Thai private sector: 200 mechanicalploughs worth approximately 368,890 USD or 12 million baht.)

* corrugated iron roof

Additional amount deemed appropriate for the ASEAN Trust Fund to be established under the ASEAN Secretariat for long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction.
