No consensus in Security Council on Zimbabwe sanctions
11 July 2008 – In the Security Council today, China and Russia vetoed a draft resolution that would have imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe, including a travel ban and assets freeze on President Robert Mugabe and 12 other individuals.
The draft received 9 votes in favor from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Croatia, Italy and Panama, and one abstention from Indonesia. South Africa, Libya and Viet Nam joined China and Russia in vetoing the resolution.
