Top Vietnamese Official Pham Gia Khiem At UN Talks

United Nations General Assembly President holds talks with top Vietnamese official

18 July 2008 - Climate change, the global food and energy crisis, economic development and United Nations reform were among the highlights of wide-ranging discussions between General Assembly President Srgjan Kerim and Viet Nam's Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem.

Mr. Kerim briefed Mr. Pham on the priority issues of the Assembly's current session, particularly climate change, development and UN reform, according to a statement issued by the President's spokesperson after the two men met yesterday in New York.

Mr. Kerim and Mr. Pham, who is also Viet Nam's Deputy Prime Minister, also discussed the impact of soaring food and fuel prices on economies around the world.

They also discussed regional issues, including recent developments in Myanmar, and the role being played by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in promoting peace and stability.
