Public Service Minister Attends Forum In Barbados

The Minister for Public Service, Milner Tozaka and his Permanent Secretary Ishmael Avui has left for the Caribbean nation of Barbados for a Commonwealth minister’s forum on public sector development.

The two day forum starts yesterday.

A ministerial statement explained that this years' forum focuses on the importance of building strong networks and managing relationships within an increasingly complex governance environment.

It said, to be effective, modern bureaucracies must be capable of implementing policy options chosen by political leadership and as well as being capable of nurturing and managing strategic relationships in the public, private and civil sectors of society.

The ministry said in many Commonwealth countries, external organisations like NGO's and investment banks represent a layer of influence and negotiation that must be effectively managed.

It said in promoting good governance across the Commonwealth, the proposed theme for this year’s forum is: Managing Relationships for Good Governance and Development.
