Robert Burns Toast of the World
For Immediate Release
Robert Burns Toast of the
World
In the final countdown to the 250th Anniversary
of Robert Burns, millions of people plan to celebrate the
Bard’s birthday with Toasts and Suppers across the
globe.
Now, thanks to Falkirk based pair Julie Deans and Steve Higson, for the first time in history fans of the Bard can record their appreciation of his lasting worldwide legacy at a unique website dedicated to record the number of Toasts to Robert Burns.
Thousands of people are already registered to raise a glass to ‘The Immortal Memory of Robert Burns.’ Toasts are planned in all corners of the globe from The Java St Andrews Society of Jakarta to the Caledonian Society of Hawaii. In Brazil, the St Andrew Society of Rio de Janeiro are massive Burns fans and are joining in to show that “Rio isn’t all beach and carnival!!”
Joint organiser of the Toast Julie said “the enthusiasm and passion of our Scottish cousins and friends from all over the world has made overcoming the vast challenges and obstacles we have faced on the journey all the more worthwhile.”
The Toast campaign is unswerving in its support of Homecoming Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland; the team are also fundraising for the new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway.
Shonaig Macpherson, Chairman of the NTS, referred to the campaign as “an exciting project” and the thrilling yet simple ‘Donate a Pound Campaign’ will give the opportunity for all corners of the globe to contribute a single pound so that everyone can help to ‘give something back to Burns.’

Background:
Managing Director Julie Deans and Management Consultant Steve Higson have teamed together to co-ordinate a “Worldwide Toast to Robert Burns” in an attempt to encourage as many people across the globe to raise a glass to “The Immortal Memory of Robert Burns” on 25th January.
We are a small, dedicated and enthusiastic team working from home in Falkirk, Central Scotland. We recognised the opportunity to capitalise on the 250th Anniversary and Homecoming year whilst at the same time trying to create a “feel good factor” at a time when there is so much doom and gloom. As our plans progressed, we came up with the idea of the “Donate a Pound” campaign with the mission of raising funds towards the new Robert Burns’ Birthplace Museum in Alloway. Our website www.worldwidetoasttorobertburns.com has been created to provide a focal point for all of the activity.
We hope to raise the £4m required by the NTS to
allow them to build the proposed new Robert Burns’
Birthplace Museum in
Alloway.
