Ban Briefed On Findings Of UN Investigation Into Gaza Incidents

New York, Apr 8 2009 2:10PM Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was briefed today by members of the United Nations Board of Inquiry, which is probing incidents involving death and damage at the world body’s premises in Gaza during Israel’s military operation and whose report is expected in two weeks.

Board members “shared their conclusions and recommendations with the Secretary-General, and informed him that they were still in the process of finalizing their report,” according to a statement issued by Mr. Ban’s spokesperson.

The four-member team is tasked with reviewing and investigating several incidents that occurred in the Gaza Strip between 27 December 2008 and 19 January 2009 and in which death or injuries occurred at, and/or damage was done to, UN premises.

Led by Ian Martin of the United Kingdom, the Board also comprises Larry Johnson of the United States, Sinha Basnayake of Sri Lanka and Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Eichenberger of Switzerland.

“They indicated their expectation to be able to present their final report in approximately two weeks,” the statement added.
