EU Clinching Deal on Climate Financing
The EU Heads of State and Government meeting on 30 October agreed on a number of important measures including on climate financing in preparation for the Copenhagen Summit, the continued implementation of economic stimulus measures with a strong focus on jobs and an EU 2020 strategy.
In response to the successful outcome of the
meetings, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European
Commission said "this was an important breakthrough, which
brings new momentum. We can look the rest of the world in
their eyes and say we, Europeans, we have done our job. We
are ready for Copenhagen. If we want developing countries to
come to the table with serious commitments then we need
developed countries to put money on the table for adaptation
to climate change and to help finance developing countries
mitigation efforts. We need to put our money where our mouth
is."
