Bombings in Iraq

Bombings in Iraq

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State

Washington, DC

December 8, 2009

I strongly condemn today’s attacks in Iraq. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims, and with all those who were injured. Our embassy in Baghdad is in contact with Iraqi authorities to offer assistance and support.

The terrorists who murdered innocent civilians today will not succeed in undermining the Iraqi people’s progress toward a more peaceful and democratic future. Iraqi political leaders underscored their resolve this week by agreeing to a new election law. Their commitment to resolving differences through negotiation and compromise stands in sharp contrast to the senseless violence of the terrorists.

The United States will continue to support the Iraqi people as they face down violent extremism and work to build a more peaceful and democratic nation.
