Protesters Gather On Anniversary Of Iraq Invasion

On March 20 Anniversary Of Iraq Invasion, Protesters To Gather At White House, Camp OUT NOW On The Mall

The U.S. now has more combat troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan than were deployed during the Bush administration. Saturday, March 20, protesters from around the country will converge on the White House (as well as in rallies in Los Angeles and San Francisco) to demand an immediate end to these occupations.

World Can’t Wait, formed in 2005 with the goal of “driving out the Bush regime” is mobilizing for these protests, demanding “Stop the Wars and Torture for Empire!” Director Debra Sweet, will speak Wednesday March 17 at Camp OUT NOW at the Washington Monument, with other anti-war leaders supporting “Peace Mom” Cindy Sheehan’s Peace of the Action.

Sweet said, “U.S. troops are still pouring into Afghanistan in the largest offensive since 2001, this time on President Obama’s orders. Repeated mass killings of civilians, to the point that even the compliant Afghan government is protesting, outrage people across the world. They must see that people in the U.S. don’t support these unjust, immoral, illegitimate occupations, and know that to us, all lives are valuable, whether of people in the U.S. or anywhere in the world.”

Elaine Brower, mother of a Marine now returned from Iraq, and member of World Can’t Wait’s National Steering Committee, stated, "It is so important for people to stand up against these wars and occupations, which are spreading further into other countries. More innocent people are dying every day, as well as our troops, and the world needs to see a mass mobilization in the streets, in front of Obama's White House demanding he put an end to the death and destruction immediately for the sake of humanity!"
