The 2012 Pacific Plan Annual Progress Report and Reporting Annex were released today by the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Tuiloma Neroni Slade.

The Pacific Plan Annual Progress Report and the accompanying Reporting Annex provide a comprehensive overview of the work of key actors in support of greater regional integration and cooperation.

“This 2012 Annual Progress Report demonstrates the progress that is being made by Member countries and regional agencies in delivering on the objectives of the Pacific Plan,” said Mr Slade.

The Annual Report includes details on progress in sectors such as climate change, fisheries, gender equality and disability inclusive development.

“The Pacific Plan remains central to the development aspirations of our region, and is an important platform for supporting engagement with relevant global processes, such as the outcomes of Rio+20, preparations for the SIDS 2014 Conference and the post-2015 development agenda,” Mr Slade added.

The Annual Report also highlights some of the challenges that are faced by the region.

“In this regard, I welcome the decision by Leaders in September 2012 to review the Pacific Plan,” said the Secretary General. “This will be an important exercise for ensuring that the aspirations of Forum Island Countries for regional cooperation and integration are fully considered in any future iteration of the Pacific Plan.”

An accompanying annex to this year’s Pacific Plan Annual Progress Report has also been produced detailing the work of Member countries and technical agencies against the Leader’s priorities agreed in 2009. The 2012 Annual Progress Report (in English and French) and the annex are available electronically at the Pacific Islands Forum website www.forumsec.org or in hardcopy from the Pacific Plan Office by email request to salanietam@forumsec.org.fj or rosib@forumsec.org.fj.
