Dr. Ashrawi meets with a Mennonite Central Committee visiting delegation

Yesterday PLO Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi met with a Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) visiting delegation, which included directors of advocacy in the U.S. and Canada and at the United Nations, at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah and welcomed them to Palestine.

Dr. Ashrawi thanked the MCC for its long history of work in Palestine and for sponsoring various relief and humanitarian projects with local groups in both the West Bank (including Jerusalem) and in Gaza.

As she addressed the importance of the BDS movement and the need to invest in Palestine, peace and justice, Dr. Ashrawi called on all mainstream churches to take a principled and moral stand in support of Palestinian human rights, freedom and human dignity.

Dr. Ashrawi and the Delegation stressed the imperative of challenging the unbalanced approach in the policies of both the U.S. Congress and of the Administration and the significance of speaking out against both the American and Canadian unquestioning support of Israel.

Both parties discussed the latest Palestinian political developments and Israel’s continued violations on the ground, including its willful and rapid escalation of illegal settlements, the persistent theft of Palestinian lands and resources in Jerusalem and in Area C, Israel’s deliberate campaign to transform the political, geographical, religious, and cultural character of Jerusalem, and its escalation of home demolitions and revocation of Jerusalem IDs.

The meeting also stressed continued Palestinian-Mennonite coordination and cooperation.
