Ngâ Pû Tohutohu - Voices of the past

The Auckland Central City Library is running Ngâ Pû Tohutohu — a Treaty of Waitangi exhibition from the 7 February to the 5 March. It celebrates the Treaty of Waitangi and the birth of this nation. This is the story of New Zealand and two peoples, of two very different cultures trying to coexist with each other.

The exhibition depicts the events of first contact between Maori people and Europeans – from Cook’s first voyage, through the introduction of Christianity, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840, the purchase of Auckland City and through to the establishment of New Zealand’s first parliament and beyond.

Location: * 2nd floor, Central City Library Hours:

* Monday to Friday: 9.30am to 5pm

* Saturday: 10am to 4pm

* Sunday: noon to 4pm

The Central City Library will also be screening a Treaty of Waitangi digital photo show on the Ground floor that depicts how the theme of coexistence resonates through our consciousness.

This exhibition is being held in conjunction with the Coexistence Outdoor Exhibition brought to you by Heart of the City .
