Ngâ Pû Tohutohu - Voices of the past
The Auckland Central City Library is running Ngâ Pû Tohutohu — a Treaty of Waitangi exhibition from the 7 February to the 5 March. It celebrates the Treaty of Waitangi and the birth of this nation. This is the story of New Zealand and two peoples, of two very different cultures trying to coexist with each other.
The exhibition depicts the events of first contact between Maori people and Europeans – from Cook’s first voyage, through the introduction of Christianity, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840, the purchase of Auckland City and through to the establishment of New Zealand’s first parliament and beyond.
