Orange Rain Warning For Marlborough |

MetService has issued an orange heavy rain warning for Marlborough west of Havelock and north of the Wairau River from 5am to 9pm tomorrow.
Between 70mm to 100mm of rain is expected about the ranges with a strong northerly flow. The heaviest rain will be tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon, with 15 mm/hr possible.
Marlborough Emergency Management, Marlborough Roads and Council staff are monitoring the situation. The expected rainfall amounts are not out-of-the-ordinary and major flooding is not expected.
People should be aware that streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, particularly with the high groundwater table in parts of the region, is possible, as are slips and difficult driving conditions. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously. There could be further land movement with some potential to disrupt road travel, particularly in places where there are active slips and current roading issues.
Marlborough Roads crews continue to work on clearing the large slip on Northbank Road. This week’s access times for residents are:
NZTA Waka Kotahi advises that SH63 and SH6 may be affected by surface flooding and slips.
