Still Time To Get Your Nomination In
Nominations close at midday this Friday, 1 August, for local body elections.
If you’re planning on running for Marlborough District Council or standing for mayor, there is still time to get your name in, but you need to act fast.
Being mayor or district councillor gives you the ability to make a positive difference for people and communities and make decisions about the way Marlborough works today and for the future.
Marlborough District Council holds assets worth $2.5 billion on behalf of the people of Marlborough and generates a turnover of $105 million from rates and $120 million from other revenue.
As an elected representative, you will oversee all of that and bring the views of the community into council’s decision-making processes.
To be eligible you must be a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on an electoral roll.
Fourteen councillors are needed for four wards - Blenheim (seven), Marlborough Sounds and the Wairau-Awatere (both three) and the Marlborough Māori Ward (one).
You can only seek nomination for one ward of council, but you may seek nomination for both mayor and council.
Those intending to run must be nominated on the official nomination papers which are available at the council offices in Blenheim and Picton or by contacting us on ph 03 520 7400 or by emailing election@marlborough.govt.nz
Candidates must consent to nomination and be nominated by two people on the electoral roll of the district. A candidate cannot nominate themselves. Nominations must be at council offices by midday this Friday.
