Delaying Major Local Decisions

Thomas Morgan, Wellington City Council Eastern Ward Candidate is joining the chorus of local election candidates in supporting a delay in deciding the fate of the local city to sea bridge which may or may not be an earthquake risk.

He suggests that the same should apply to any other serious local body decision being made anywhere in the country unless it was an extremely urgent matter that cannot wait.

“At this point in the election cycle with a new incoming group of decision makers and the obvious further local debate wanted by the community it would be prudent to delay a decision until perhaps early 2026” Morgan said.

Locally, he said that it was a pleasant quiet space with a view of the harbour that he’s used many times over the years. He wasn’t able to attend the protest today and was wondering if more active members of the community would be taking up residence on the bridge.

“Hopefully the voice of the people win out in this particular case.” Morgan said.

It has been reported that the bridge was due to start coming down on Friday and elections start very soon.
