Synopsis:

100 political cartoons that cover the final year of PM Helen Clark’s nine-year reign, and the first four years of John Key. The cartoons appear in chronological order. Using inkmarkers, pens, pencils and unusual texturing, artist Martin Doyle boasts a naive, aggressive style that bristles with raw energy. Although the style is far from the mainstream, the focus is very much on the key issues of a watershed period of modern New Zealand history. Whimsical, irreverent, slapstick, engaged with lashings of verbal wit.

Author:

Martin Doyle is an artist who lives in Wellington, New Zealand. His visual work has appeared for several years on the Scoop news website, Salient, and Capital Times. He is a self-taught artist who continues to evolve. He has also worked as a writer for both radio and television. His focus on political life is enhanced by a Master’s degree in Public Policy.
