At 11pm on Sunday the 24th of October 2010 a Toyota Hilux containing two 16 year olds left the road on State Highway 67 north of Westport.
As a result the female passenger was thrown from the vehicle and critically injured. She died at the scene.
The male driver fled before police arrival. He was located by police and processed for driving whilst intoxicated.
The dead girl has been named as Harmony Wihongi of Westport.
