Public Tribute for Dunedin’s Golden Children
Dunedin (Monday, 8 November 2010) –
His Worship the Mayor, Dave Cull, is pleased to invite the public of Dunedin to attend a tribute to Alison Shanks and Ben Smith, gold medallists at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
“The whole community is extremely proud of Alison and Ben. They have done the city proud and this is an opportunity for everyone to join in expressing that pride.” says Mayor Cull.
Alison won gold for the Cycling Track 3000m Individual Pursuit Women, with a time of 3:30.875.
Ben was one of the New Zealand Sevens squad who beat Australia 24-17 in the final at the Games, to win the gold.
The public tribute will begin at 5.30pm, in the Dunedin Town Hall on Thursday, 18 November.
