Award winning comedian brings his show to Wellington for the first time!

After his first year of stand up comedy Auckland based American comedian Dave Wiggins was voted Best Newcomer by the NZ Comedy Guild (2003). Since then Dave has been a regular on the NZ comedy scene and at the NZ International Comedy Festival (voted Best Newcomer 2004).

A YANK IN NZ is a collection of Dave’s best observations from his five years of being an American living in New Zealand. His outside’s view on New Zealand culture has been a hit with Kiwi audiences.

“Its all about differences, discovers and the general confusion I have faced over the years, “says Wiggins. “Like how words means different things here. What we in the States call a flashlight, you call a torch. But when I think of a torch I think of a big wooden stick with a ball of fire on the end of it. So it’s a bit weird when people ask me to bring a torch camping. I often think we are planning to attack the neighboring village and burn their grass hut.”

A YANK IN NZ originally premiered at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (under the name A YANK DOWN UNDER) to popular and critical success. The sell out show helped Dave be described, by one critic (Ari Sharp, www.theprogram.net.au), as a hidden gem of the festival. After tackling Melbourne, Dave is ready for Wellington.

“I’m really looking forward to bringing my show to Wellington this year,” Dave says. “I’ve done a few gigs there over the years and the crowds are great.”

The run also supports the release of the ground breaking concert DVD Dave Wiggins Live @ the Classic which is now available. “I’m really proud of this project. It was real easy for me. I had a sold out crowd and four cameras filming me. All I had to do was perform.”
