Songs on the Fringe gives budding singers and songwriter composers the chance to be an integral part of the 2007 Fringe Festival. During the Festival on Thursday nights the Bluenote Bar hosts singers and songwriters (18 years and older) interested in playing at an established live entertainment venue.

Regular hosts Joe Standeven and Johnny Mills are joined by special guest Emma Paki with a wide range of song genres to entertain the audience.

Local and International songwriters and singers are encouraged to drop in and perform their works at this long established Bluenote Bar weekly event – original music live and an opportunity to talk with the composers and artists

Drum kit, keyboard, microphones, bass amp all provided – just bring along your guitar and amp lead, plug in and perform.

February 15 Host Joe Standeven is a Wellingtonian who started off 8 years ago playing covers in a band called the Buzzards and then ventured into solo projects since then. Joe has been a passive music enthusiast over the past 20 years until he took to the stage himself and found ti great fun. He has helped artists starting out and regularly attended local jam nights in the Wellington region. Joe prefers soul/jazz/rock music but enjoys hosting the wide range of music that often crops up on these songs on the fringe.

February 22 Host Emma Paki was voted Best Songwriter of the Year Award 1993 NZ Music Awards and made a GOLD album in 1996 from original song album sales. Voted Best Solo artist of the year 2004 in Metro magazine Emma has performed in New Zealand and overseas including Japan. Her repertoire is soul/jazz and Emma will perform and talk about several of her own compositions whilst hosting the evening.

March 1 Host Johnny Mills has hosted songwriter gigs around the Wellington area for the past 8 years. He has participated in previous fringe Festival songwriter series with Tyree Robinson and helped organise the 2006 Wellington Music week. John has played in groups including Shanakie, The Millstones and recently the Proxies (pixies tribute band). He is currently in the process of forming his own group which will play pop/rock genre.
