Is Big Brother still watching you…?

Fresh from sell-out shows in Melbourne comes the innovative multimedia interpretation of George Orwell’s classic novel ‘1984’.

Six of Wellington’s finest musicians, accompanied by original film and performance, will perform the compositions of recently repatriated composer and producer, Little Brother. For four nights only, audiences will be transported to an intense world of typewriters, tension, and triumph.

“I’m really excited to be bringing 2+2=5 to the Fringe,” says Little Brother. “I’m constantly reminded of the relevance of ‘1984’ to contemporary society. This show is a chance to explore themes suggested by the novel, in the context of an entirely new piece of art. You certainly don’t need to have read the book to enjoy the show.”

The music is the central focus of the night. Clarinets, strings and guitars intertwine, blending elements of classical, jazz and Eastern European folk music. The film follows the exploits of the man in the white mask, an ‘everyman’ figure whose emotional state mirrors that of the music.

Unique performance elements are used to engage the audience and heighten tension. “I think everyone is in for a few surprises,” says Little Brother with a smile.

2+2=5 hits Happy from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March, as part of the 2007 Wellington Fringe Festival
