Big beats and good times from Wellington’s favourite percussion ensemble

Strike Percussion are back at Downstage for one very special show.

Showcasing live favourites and tracks from their brand new album, Strike Soundsystem brings the exhilaration of four live percussionists who beat, bang, hammer and cajole a range of traditional and custom-made instruments into life. As a special treat, Strike have enlisted talents of local diva Lisa Tomlins (The Eggs), Mana (Rhombus) and hip hop/breaks DJ Samu (aka Sam Minns) - all of whom feature on Strike’s new album.

Strike Soundsystem gives audiences a unique opportunity to hear these album tracks live for the very first time. Recorded at the world-famous Karekare Studios (Crowded House, Portishead, Radiohead) it is due for release later in 2009.

“It’s the proudest thing I’ve done in ages,” says Murray Hickman, Artistic Director of Strike. “We can’t wait to premier these tracks to an audience. I’m still boogying to the tunes and I’ve heard them a thousand times!”

Strike have been playing to NZ and international audiences since 1993, and recently rocked out with Kora at the Vodafone Music Awards.

“Nothing short of miraculous.” The Evening Standard

Strike Soundsystem is supported by NZ Fringe, Wellington City Council, Downstage Theatre and Wellington Producer’s Room.
