Craft 2.0 will kick off 2010 with a fourth birthday bash from 11am to 3pm, Saturday March 6, at the New Dowse in Lower Hutt. Excited to be part of the 2010 Fringe festival and sharing space with the prestigious Shapeshifter sculpture exhibition, Craft2.0 is ready to turn four in style.

Over 4 years Craft2.0 has become synonymous with high quality, diverse products proudly claiming ‘New Zealand Made’ or even better, ‘Wellington made’. March sees the biggest fair yet with 70 crafters, many selling for the first time. You may discover that your neighbour moonlights as an artist, a colleague is a closet knitter and the kid next door’s Dad is rather resourceful in the design department.

Take the opportunity to speak directly with the clever clogs behind the craft and know that you are in possession of something truly unique. All vendors are carefully hand picked to avoid what has become known over the years as “Nana crafts”. Whilst some crafters may have a sneaky reference or two to a beloved grandmother, this certainly isn’t crocheted air freshener covers.

Many of our crafters use recycled/vintage materials, like cast-off aluminium tabs, e-waste, old board games, cutlery and other quirky objects that often end up at the rubbish dump - it’s all about being resourceful. We love finding new and unusual ways to reuse discarded items, and we hope we’ll inspire you to do the same.

Lower Hutt’s very own hand dyed yarn label, Knitsch, will officially launch with a song and dance on the day. “Craft2.0 is always a blast and I couldn’t think of a better place to make lots of noise about Knitsch Yarns,” Creative Director Tash Barneveld says. “Craft2.0 stands for everything we believe in - modern, clever craft which laughs at itself and doesn’t take life too seriously.”

For spot prizes, the ever-loved kids’ craft table and a bunch of brand new retailers, Craft2.0 promises to be a great day out for all.
