Starring. Mike Nyland, Sons of Midas

Dir. Lucy Parr, Mike Nyland

16th – 17th February 2010 at Betty’s Bar, Blair Street, Wellington

In Reverse is a mad romp through the rise and demise of Wellington surf rock band, Sons of Midas. A mixed media organza, In Reverse is the story of a Wellington band and their tumulus career.

Performed in Betty’s Bar, chosen specifically for the unique atmosphere and visual set up, the audience will be treated to an audiovisual feast, featuring live performance, documentary footage and animations. The story begins at the end, working its way backwards to tell a story of a band, as well as to showcase a summary of work for the musicians and other creatives involved. Featuring a superb original soundtrack, In Reverse takes you on an intimate journey, documenting the carnival ride through fragmentation to inception. A must-see for any fan of music, film or Wellington.

In Reverse is performed as part of Fringe 2010.

Band Bio:
SONS OF MIDAS formed in 2006, following several enjoyable jam sessions featuring Golden Bay boys Mike Nyland (drums), Mark Newton (guitar), and Shanti Costar (vocals, bass). The good-time surf rock band soon became a favourite for Wellington audiences, playing regularly at Mighty Mighty and The Watusi. After some changes in circumstance, the band decided to take a hiatus. Till when, no one knows, but many care.
