RUSSIAN FROST FARMERS GALLERY

2 Eva Street off Dixon Street.

26 and 27 February 8:30pm

Beaming through the online portal, Surveillance Station Recordings take to the street for a realtime multi-location audio/visual experiment. Sound and light harvesters will feed fragments of information back to the RussianFrostFarmer HQ for citywide reconfiguration.

The RussianFrost Farmers, as follow-up to the recent success of the real/digital time performance between Hamburg, Germany and Wellington, New Zealand at Subvisions. Art. Festival. Off, have developed a new multi-space performance based collaboration.

Participating via the internet for a new-media exhibition - RUNTIME - integrates video, audio, internet and a degree of theatrical performance. Surveillance Station Recording artists wearing technologically advanced attire will roam through the city sampling light and sound. This information will be transported back to the Fringe Festival venue – RussianFrostFarmers gallery at 2 Eva Street, Wellington via a mobile internet connection.

Utilizing, Skype, UstreamTv and webbased file transfer architecture for multiple file version application, the sound and video samples will be reconfigured in an evolving broadcast that layers citywide moments.

Utilizing the development of VOIP and peer to peer networking the RFF see the internet as a temporal space for the production of work, rather than the exhibition of work. In this manner, works are enriched by digital collaboration, as opposed to a situation where qualities of the work are lost by transferring them solely to the digital realm.

Surveillance Station Recordings are the audio division of the RussianFrost Farmers. RFF are working within a new-media paradigm to present a sustainable creative philosophy exploring perspectives concurrent with the modern language of international art. Framing the artist as a consumer and the viewer as user promotes an interactive/participatory engagement.

The RFF work heavily with recycling, reusing and importantly reconfiguring cheap old analog technology. Merging these devices with modern digital technology forms a new-media paradigm with the potential to create new sound and visual art forms.
