New Nigel Latta website to help families cope with disasters

A new website will help New Zealand families deal with the psychological effects of traumatic events such as the Christchurch earthquake.

On http://www.safeandsoundnz.co.nz, clinical psychologist and bestselling author Nigel Latta will advise parents how they can guide their children through any major upheavals in their lives.

“There are some very simple things mums and dads can do to help their kids through these difficult times,” says Latta.

Safe & Sound NZ builds on a post-earthquake support campaign that was kicked off by Latta with a series of seminars for Christchurch parents in April and May. The site will be launched after a follow-on June 15 TV ONE special hosted by Latta, After the Quake.

The entire initiative is a collaboration between Sovereign and Nigel Latta, as both parties wanted to provide relevant and tangible support for the community.

“Safe and Sound NZ will ensure that Nigel Latta’s sage advice is available to all New Zealand families when they find themselves coping with traumatic events, now or in the future,” says Sovereign CEO Charles Anderson.

“Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for the anxiety felt by families after such disasters as the Christchurch earthquake and continuing aftershocks. The website is designed to give ongoing practical support whenever it’s needed, whatever the situation.”

The website will feature downloadable tools, tips and information from Latta on how to cope as a family, with an emphasis on helping children deal with the emotional toll of traumatic situations. People will also be able to watch the June 15 television special on the site, and view the presentation from Latta’s series of Christchurch seminars.
