V8's, Trucks, Muscle Cars And International Stars for Teretonga

New Zealand's premier motor racing categories will come together at Teretonga Park, Invercargill over the weekend of 23/24 January in a meeting dubbed Southern Thunder 2016.

Many of the country's most popular series will gather for what will be one of the best motorsport meetings in the south for many year's. The unification of the V8 SuperTourers and NZ V8 Touring Cars under the banner of the BNT NZ Touring Car Series will mean the strongest V8 field for many years with names such as Fogg, Edgell, Bargwanna and Baird all returning while some of the world's best young up and coming talents will fight it out in the Toyota Racing Series. Already confirmed for that series is Pedro Piquet, son of three-time World Champion Nelson Piquet, the youngest ever driver to win the World Karting Championship Lando Norris of Britain, Brazilian cousins Bruno and Rodrigo Baptista, American Will Owen and Frenchman Timothe Buret, Ferrari Academy Driver Guanyu Zhou of China and Force India Academy protege Jehan Daruvula while Ferdinand Habsburg of Austria returns to the series after competing here last year.

An appearance by the ENZED Central Muscle Cars has been long awaited by Southland motor racing fans and they will form part of the action with cars such as Mustangs, Camaro's Torana's, Falcon's, Commodore's and Valiant Chargers gracing the grid.

The NZ Super Trucks are another class with a huge following in the south and allied to the V8's, Muscle Cars and no doubt some Formula 1 bound stars in the Toyota Racing Series it forms one of the best line ups assembled at the track in recent years. Add in Formula Ford and the Toyota 86 Series and it is a weekend beyond compare.
