Top Strength Hurricane Rita Heads For Galveston and Houston

Hurricane Rita, presently a Category 5 Hurricane and the third most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Gulf of Mexico, is headed directly to the low-lying island city of Galveston and then Texas's biggest city Houston. Unless she weakens over the coming days Rita stands a good chance of challenging Hurricane Katrina's record for destruction as she ploughs directly through the Gulf Coast oil fields towards the most populated area on the Texas coast. Around the turn of the 19th/20th Century Galveston was struck by the worst Hurricane in US history in terms of loss of life, a disaster that cost 8000 lives. Hurricane Rita is packing winds in excess of 270kmh. See... Supercomputer Weather: Rita Is Galveston Bound [1] ALSO:

Ahmed Zaoui Delivers A Lecture On Islam

    - (Full Text) This evening, I would like to speak to you about this question: what is the idea of peace in Islam? Put in a different, though perhaps less precise way, is Islam a religion of peace? My thesis is a simple one – that salaam, which means peace, is at the core of Islam. The Qu’ran, the Muslim Holy Book, and Hadith, the sayings of Prophet Mohammed, are replete with exhortations to non-violence over violence and forgiveness over retribution. See... Indonesia Urged To Act On Bird Flu Prevention

    - Concerned over the spread of bird flu in Indonesia, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) today called for stepped up government control measures and funding to combat the virus, which in a worst case scenario could mutate into a worldwide pandemic, killing tens of millions of people. “The fight against bird flu should become a national priority and veterinary and civil authorities should be provided with the full power to enforce disease control measures,” FAO said in the latest warning on the spreading H5N1 virus since the first human case linked to widespread poultry outbreaks in Viet Nam and Thailand was reported in January last year.
