Tanveer Jafri: Beware of Internet Thugs

Undoubtedly,the computer has brought a big revolution in the sphere of communication. It is being accepted that invention of the computer & the Internet are the biggest achievements of human history. The man has been constantly progressing, day & night by using computer & Internet system, in research work, in industry trade, education, banking, share markets, health & medicines. But unfortunately, where enchanting inventions like computer & Internet are being helpful in giving all types of conveniences to human beings, some persons have indulged themselves in misusing these. As the way of spoiling the computer by sending viruses of different types hasn’t yet stopped, but an international group of thugs through Internet have become active.

This group of Internet thugs is active, especially in the countries of South Africa. Same such thugs are also active in China, France, Britain & some Asian countries. First of all, these thugs search E-Mail addresses at world level. After that, letters arousing greed are sent to those E-Mail addresses. The story expressed by these thugs on E-Mail addresses is so enchanting & impressive that even, however educated & intelligent a person may be, falls into their trap & feels, bound to correspond, once or twice in this game of the thugs. Interestingly, every E-Mail sent by these thugs, tells a different story. To prove themselves right, these E-Mail thugs write the phone numbers & complete addresses of their so called offices, in their covetous letters. To prove the authentication of their profession, these people don’t hesitate to show their links with the great personalities.

For example, a few days ago, I got a so called congratulation message from Burkina Faso in South Africa, in which I was informed that I won a lottery of million of dollars. “Your name has been selected through Internet”. The name of Nelson Mandela was used as the chief Patron, among the directors of this lottery. Only a few days back, I got another E-Mail that struck me with wonder. This mail was sent by the name, Susan Shvango. The so called Shvango, introducing herself wrote that she is safety & security minister in the South African government of President Sir Thabo Mabeki. Even the E-Mail sender sent me U.R.L. of African government so that it may be verified that Susan Shvango is holding a ministry in South African government. The E-Mail sender gave me a phone number 002772-3160-963 informing that- ‘As I am holding a responsible post as a minister, so you contact my son, Carto Shvango on the above phone number.’ The so said minister told her brief story as “Her husband Anedelib Shvango died during a government journey from Trinidad to Tobago in 1996. After his death I came to know that he had 27 million American Dollars with him. As I am on a very sensitive post, so disclosure of such a big amount, while residing in South Africa, is not proper for me. Please contact my son. He wants to be your partner & invest money in your country.”

Another story by an E-Mail thug is as such. He wrote ‘you must be knowing that after the dethrone of Saddam Hussain, there was no law & order in Iraq. All the government treasure & countless property of Saddam Hussain were looted. I got 12 big boxes lying in eastern sector of Tigris River that contained 650 millions of American Dollars. I want to share this big amount with you. Similarly, one E-Mail writer thug writes that he is owner of huge property & wealth. He wants to spend his money, for helping of the poor & helpless people, through you. A woman wrote in an E-Mail that her husband has been murdered & there are his 15 millions American Dollars in a bank. She wants to invest that money in your fellowship. It has become common to get such type of false E-Mail information of winning a lottery of millions of Dollars.

These ultra modern thugs using E-Mail for their profession of ruffianism have searched a new way. They go on telling, by using different names & different E-Mail addresses, that they are working on a seat that deals with secret documents in African Development Bank or any other bank. They tell concocted stories of many types & say that they have a fund of millions of Dollars of a person that has no claimant. If you posing yourself as his relative claim it, I playing an important role in it, can help you to get this amount transferred to your bank account. You will have to pay half share of this amount to me, returning like for like. The type of such like thugs, just to make their story convincing, send some U.R.L.s that are associated with B.B.C. or any other prominent & popular news service. Its E-Mail sender wants you to read a news of a plane accident or car accident. He wants to tell that all the members of his family died in that accident. “As there is no claimant surviving to claim that amount, so with your help that amount can be easily withdrawn. I am the office in charge of the file that contains the documents regarding the dead person’s money. So, on your acceptance I shall start the work of transferring the amount of Dollars in your bank account.”

Millions of persons like me, whose E-Mail addresses are easily available through Internet or news portals, are being sent such baseless, false & non-sense E-Mails, daily or many time in a day, by above or such like all thugs. All these thugs have one aim or one demand that is; anyhow you send them, your name, full address, telephone number, bank account number & Swift code no. of your bank. As it is an age of electronic banking. So these clever & over intelligent thugs are trying to break in the ultra modern banking system. Sometimes we hear the news that the amount from the bank account of a person vanished without any withdrawal by him. It is better to delete such greed arousing letters & not to waste time by reading these baseless, false & non-sense & bentrovat E-Mails. These contra bonos mores letters should not be replied even.
