Israel has the Power to Wipe Out Palestine

Israel has the Power to Wipe Out Palestine

By Genevieve Cora Fraser

"The IDF has the firepower
To wipe out an entire population
If we wanted," Benjamin Netanyahu
Former Israeli prime
Minister recently bragged
Before the 35th Zionist
Congress in Jerusalem.
“We could wipe out
All of Gaza
But we are not doing this.”
Yet -
Big and brave and powerful
The US sponsored 36 billion
Dollar Israeli military
Amassed its massive
Strike force on the border of Gaza’s
Defenseless population
1.5 million Palestinians shoved
Into the tiny coastal region
Since Al Nakba in 1948
And the Six Day War
That has played out
In endless assaults
Over 39 years
One of their own has
Been taken – an Israeli
Soldier more
Precious than the lives
Of hundreds
Of Palestinian men
Women and children
Who have been wantonly
Killed without benefit of judge
Or jury since Israel’s truce
With Hamas which Hamas
Honored until the Gaza beach
Incident Never
True to their word
Israel continued to plunder
The land stealing water
And farmlands abducting
Children from the streets
To stock their prisons
Tortured and abused
10s of thousands
Of shells light up the skies
Day after day
Night after night
Starved inside
The open air prison
Israel has erected
To house the indigenous
People of the Holy Land
Bethlehem under siege
The birthplace
Of the Prince
Of Peace defiled
Locked in poverty
Unrelenting pain
Villages and towns
Incarcerated by concrete
Manned watch towers
Ready to swing
Into deadly action
Surveillance cameras
Record their every move
Why would a population
Resist such treatment
The Western Powers
Wonder I wonder why
Israel resists allowing
Food, medicine or money
Into the territories
Bombed a family outing
Turned a beach
Into a war zone
Hamas’ militant wing
Finally snapped
The other wing
Useless in flight
Drained of resources
Food, money, medicine
The population
Ready to snap
Back into an Intifada
Bones break as houses
Are crushed in upon
Hungry children
No longer cry
As sonic booms
F 16s light up the sky
Destined for death
By Israeli assault
Claiming rights
To what was never theirs
Uphold the right
Of the oppressor
To oppress
Kill all in sight
Is Israel’s prerogative
The “moral” state
Acting in self-defense
Against the defenseless
Bomb bridges
All electricity
Water, sewer lines
Cut off from the world
And what is
Palestine’s crime?
Their Right to Resist
Their Right to Return
Their Right to Elect
Hamas if it pleases
Palestine is free
Free, free, free
To be Palestine
Until the last
Drop of their
Precious and ancient
Is spilt
By a misguided

Gordon Campbell: On The Politicising Of The War On Drugs In Sport

It hasn’t been much fun at all to see how “war on drugs in sport” has become a proxy version of the Cold War, fixated on Russia. This weekend’s banning of the Russian long jumper Darya Klishina took that fixation to fresh extremes. More>>

Binoy Kampmark: Kevin Rudd’s Failed UN Secretary General Bid

Few sights are sadder in international diplomacy than seeing an aging figure desperate for honours. In a desperate effort to net them, he scurries around, cultivating, prodding, wishing to be noted. Finally, such an honour is netted, in all likelihood just to shut that overly keen individual up. More>>

Ramzy Baroud: Being Black Palestinian - Solidarity As A Welcome Pathology

It should come as no surprise that the loudest international solidarity that accompanied the continued spate of the killing of Black Americans comes from Palestine; that books have already been written and published by Palestinians about the plight of their Black brethren.
