With less than 1 day, 9 hours and 12mins to kick off to the 2009 NZI Sevens the associated annual hype and general madness in the Capital has already begun.

The Fijian Sevens Team drew crowds to Lambton Quay this afternoon providing photo opportunities and signing autographs for fans young and old. For many of the players this is the first time they have left the islands.

At the top of Pool D Fiji, goes head to head with USA on Friday at 1:44pm followed by the Cook Islands later that afternoon.

Fiji currently lie fourth in the overall point standings for the 2007-2008 IRB Sevens World Series behind Samoa, SA and NZ respectively.

The Wellington Sevens is one of eight in a series of tournaments held around the world each year and the first for 2009. The NZI Sevens will bring a much welcomed cash injection to the local Wellington economy.
