Cliffhanger in Wellington Mayoral Election

Provisional election results just announced in the Wellington Mayoral race show incumbent Kerry Prendergast only 40 votes ahead of her nearest rival Celia Wade Brown.
The results were handed to media at 6pm and Radio New Zealand reported that Prendergast has received 24,468 votes to Celia Wade Brown's 24,428 votes.
Wellington's Mayoral election is decided using the STV (Single Transferrable Vote) method. Special and late postal votes may prove decisive in the Race.
