Stalled Consumer Law Reform Bill Gets Moving

After a 12 month wait Parliament debated the committee stage of the Consumer Law Reform Bill this evening.

Many groups have called for the bill to be progressed as it modernises consumer law, however it has been stalled on the Order Paper since last December.

By leave all parts were taken as one debate enabling MPs to get it on to its final stage. It was supported by all parties and was reported with amendment.

Earlier the MPs completed the first reading of the Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill (No 3) by 104 to 14 with the Greens and Mana opposed. It was sent to the Local Government and Environment Committee for consideration.

The Harmful Digital Communications Bill also completed its first reading on a voice vote and was sent to the Justice and Electoral Committee for consideration.
