Govt Wins Confidence Vote

The Government has won the first confidence vote of the year in Parliament.

At the conclusion of the debate on the PM’s statement the question, “That this House express its confidence in the National-led Government and commend its programme for 2014 as set out in the Prime Minister’s Statement to Parliament” was passed by 63 to 57 with National, Maori Party, ACT and United in favour.

An amendment to delete all the words after "That" and to substitute "this House expresses no confidence in this National led Government because New Zealand has become more and more divided, because those in the middle are struggling, and because the poor are going backwards" was defeated by 63 to 57 with National, Maori Party, ACT and United Future opposed.

MPs then began the third reading of the Airports (Cost Recovery for Processing of International Travellers) Bill.
