Just say when…
With less than 20 hours before people can have their say on the Government’s search and surveillance fix-it, the Government has refused to give an indication of when the latest draft of the Bill will be available, Charles Chauvel says.
The Government also stopped Labour from tabling its proposed improvements to the Bill - aimed at striking a balance between police powers and the need for them to be supervised – in the House today.
“Despite the fact the Attorney-General confirmed the Bill has been significantly re-drafted, he was unwilling to seek the leave of the House to table the new version.
“Worse, he refused to even give an indication of when the redrafted Bill would be made publicly available.
“Labour, unlike National, believes that these matters should be dealt with transparently.
“A copy of our SOP is attached, and will be made available on www.redalert.org.nz, as will all dealings we have with National on this issue,” Charles Chauvel said.
