Gaza: Press Statement - Government Weekly Meeting

The Palestinian Government in Gaza held its weekly meeting (No. 330) and concluded with the following statement:

The Palestinian Government denounces the Israeli Knesset deliberations on assuming full sovereignty over Al Aqsa Mosque. It appeals to the Government of Jordan, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take action to put an end to this new terrorism.

The Government acclaims UN Human Rights Rapporteur Mr. Richard Falk's statements calling for an end to the blockade of the Gaza Strip, while condemning the silence of the international community on the siege, which is now in its eighth consecutive year. It affirms that the government remains committed to its efforts to break the suffocating siege and provide a decent life for Palestinians.

The Government extends its condolences to Palestinians and to the bereaved family of Sheikh Abdul Karim al-Kahlout, the Mufti of Gaza and one of the leading Sharia scholars.

The Government appreciates the ongoing efforts to end the nine-month ordeal of those in the Yarmouk refugee camp, and to return the displaced to their homes. It calls on all parties to the cease-fire agreement to honour it, and return life in the camp to normalcy.

The Government thanks the Republic of Turkey for its endeavors to help the Palestinian refugees fleeing the brunt of the war in Syria by granting them temporary residency permits.

The Government praises the Arab League’s position in calling for an internationalcommission to go to the Occupied Territories to investigate the situation of Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails.

The Palestinian Government pays homage to all institutions and associations that push for political, academic and commercial boycotts of Israel and its colonial settlement activity in the West Bank. It also acknowledges the work of university students in organising Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) to expose Israel’s discriminatory measures before the world.

The Government assures that the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre of Palestinian worshipers will not be wiped from the memories of the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nations. They will remain witnesses to the orgy of Zionist settlers’ extremism.
