Exciting Young Talent At Performing Arts Awards

The Manukau Secondary Schools Performing Arts Awards kick off on Friday 1 August at the Otara Music Arts Centre (OMAC). This is a great opportunity to come and experience some of the raw and diverse musical talent emerging from our region.

The Performing Arts Awards competition is open to all secondary school students in the Auckland region. The Awards promote classical and contemporary music and dance in both individual and group categories. Entrants in eight categories will compete for $4,800 in prize money.

Heats will be held each Friday in August at OMAC, with the finals on Saturday 30 August at the Lakeside Convention Centre in Mangere.

Manukau City Council's OMAC Centre Programmer Ruth Thompson says, "We have a huge amount of musical talent in Manukau and we want to give our youth the opportunities to develop their talents further. Audiences can expect to see young, exciting and fresh talent from a variety of performing arts including dance, vocals and instrumental both classical and contemporary."

There were 75 entries in last year's competition. The overall winner was James Cook High School. Other category winners were Tamaki College, Pukekohe High, Auckland Girls Grammar, McAuley High School and Mangere College.

Finals:

Saturday 30 August 2pm - 6pm Lakeside Convention Centre
