Walkers disrupted by water main replacement

The footpaths on one side of Northcroft and Huron streets in Takapuna will be closed from July 18 while two water mains are replaced.

The northern side of Northcroft St, with the National Bank on the corner, and the southern side of Huron St, with the Westpac Bank on the corner, will be closed for five weeks.

The water main replacement is part of North Shore City Council's continuous programme to improve water supply.

Council is replacing the water mains with larger pipes to meet the demand created by an increasing number of businesses in the area, and for improved fire fighting.

Pedestrians will be diverted to the opposite side of both streets during the work, which will be done using mainly trenchless methods, although some pits will need to be dug.

To minimise disruption, some of the work will also be done at night.

Towards the end of the project, in late August, water supply may need to be shut down while services are switched over, but property owners will be advised beforehand.

Road traffic will not be disrupted during the $250,000 project, and access to properties along Northcroft St will be maintained at all times.
