Fair funding of holiday programmes across Auckland
Fair funding of holiday programmes across Auckland city
Auckland City’s funding of holiday programmes across the city will now be allocated using a contestable funding scheme following a review of the current system.
A three month review was undertaken by an independent consultant to ensure the allocation of funds to school holiday providers was needs-based and equitable across Auckland city.
As a result of the evaluation, a new structure has been put in place to make the holiday programme funding scheme contestable.
Recreation and arts manager Gail Richards says, “Holiday programme funding has historically stemmed from ward-based allocations and the amounts vary across wards. The new system will ensure fair funding across the city.”
Auckland City will maintain current levels of funding through to April 2007. Funding from the new scheme will take effect after this. The first holiday programmes funded by the new scheme will be in July 2007.
