New Regional Economic Agency Eager
for Action
“The mandate, the strategy, and the
energy to make a difference” are what characterise
Regional EDA Ltd, the new agency that will implement the
regional economic development initiatives in the Wellington
Regional Strategy, according to the agency’s Chairman,
Murray McCaw.
Regional EDA Ltd began operations on 1 July, and on Monday 2 July the Board met the staff for the first time at a 7.30 am meeting.
“We made an early start because we’re all excited about the opportunity to make a difference,” Mr McCaw said.
“Our Board’s priority as soon as it meets on 3 July is to establish the operational priorities for Regional EDA based on delivering the Wellington Regional Strategy and especially its objectives around growing businesses and exports.
“We need to make the Wellington region internationally competitive. To be more exact, we need to make it white-hot.”
“At the same time, our aim is to ensure a seamless start-up for the new agency and the continuation of the excellent service that the region and its businesses have come to expect from our award-winning team.”
Mr McCaw said the staff will include former Positively Wellington Business personnel and two economic development staff members from Go Wairarapa. Regional EDA will also have a close operating relationship with Nature Coast Enterprise.
The agency will operate out of the premises of the former economic development agency Positively Wellington Business, with a Regional Manager based in the Wairarapa.
“All of the significant current economic development initiatives throughout the region will be brought into Regional EDA Ltd and progressed over the next few months – generally by the personnel who have been working with those projects to date,” Mr McCaw said.
“Included in these existing initiatives are the Greater Wellington Industry Development Centre, and Wairarapa’s food and wine initiative”
Mr McCaw said the name of the company, Regional EDA Ltd, was a ‘place-holder’ only and that it would adopt a trading name before the end of the year.
