Council To Assess Road Safety Messages
Council To Assess Road Safety Messages
Love them or hate them—road safety advertisements are a part of modern day life. And if we take on board what those most closely affected by road safety, the police and ambulance services, say they are very much of life and death importance.
But do they work?
The Rodney District Council is setting out to find out.
The council in conjunction with local community radio station, TimesFM, is conducting an on-line survey to assess the effectiveness of its road safety radio commercials on the station.
The coordinator of the survey, council’s Jacki Dawson, says the question is not whether the commercials are needed but rather whether the approach taken is the right one and whether the message is “getting through.”
“By finding out what people think of the advertisements and how much they remember we can look at employing advertising more effectively with, clearly, the ultimate objective being to reduce the road toll in Rodney,” she says.
Survey forms are on-line in the Have Your Say section of the council’s website www.rodney.govt.nz or TimesFM site www.timesfm.co.nz. All completed surveys go into a draw for a$100 petrol voucher.
Jacki says the results will be published on the websites.
