Twins a Topp draw-card

Twins a Topp draw-card

New Zealand’s national treasures, The Topp Twins, are set to provide comic relief for Christchurch in January when they join street performers from around the globe for the World Buskers’ Festival.

The twins, Lynda and Jools Topp, have performed around the world as an original country-music comedy duo for more than 25 years and continue to delight audiences from the alternative to the mainstream.

In the late 1990s, they created their own top-rating TV series, which ran for three seasons and showcased their popular cast of Kiwi characters, including Camp Mother, the Bowling Ladies and cross-dressing Ken and Ken. The series won the twins several awards at the NZ Film and TV Awards and has screened on the ABC and Foxtel in Australia.

“I can’t think of any other act which has such a cross-over appeal. The Topp Twins are a hit whether they’re performing in front of a gay/lesbian audience or in front of a rugby crowd before a big match,” says World Buskers’ Festival artistic director Jodi Wright.

“They have certainly drawn big crowds every time they have performed at the World Buskers’ Festival and we’re delighted they have agreed to come back again and help us celebrate our 18th birthday.”

The Topp Twins will be in Christchurch from January 24 to 27. During the day on January 25 and 26 they will perform at the UC Buskers Park in Victoria Square and at night, January 24, 25 and 26, they will MC at the Stoneleigh Arts Centre Comedy Club.
