Two months of rain in two days causes contamination - stay out of water
Two months of rain in two days has caused widespread flooding throughout the region, and subsequent water contamination by land run-off and an overloaded sewage system.
Whangarei District Council Waste and Drainage Manager Andrew Carvell said people were advised to avoid contact with the harbour, particularly in upper harbour between the Town Basin and Onerahi, and other contaminated water across the District for the next five days.
“Our advice is not to collect shellfish from the harbour for the next 28 days.”
