Statement: former directors and officers of Pike River Coal
Media Release
18 September
2012
Statement
made on behalf of six former directors and officers of
Pike River Coal Limited (in
receivership)
This media statement is made on behalf of six former directors and officers of Pike River Coal Limited (in receivership), who applied to the High Court for judicial review of certain decisions of the Royal Commission on the Pike River Coal Mine Tragedy. The Court was asked, among other things, to review the Commission’s decision not to reconvene its hearings to allow for cross-examination of persons from whom the Commission obtained written statements after the hearings concluded.
Our clients are presently reviewing the High Court’s
judgment and considering the most appropriate way forward in
light of the decision. It remains their wish to support the
Royal Commission and ensure that its findings are based on
fairly tested evidence and made in accordance with natural
justice.
