Mahia residents urged to lodge wastewater applications
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is reminding Mahia residents to lodge replacement wastewater applications before the end of November to ensure their wastewater discharges are appropriately authorised.
Wairoa District Council is building a new community sewage scheme, which will pipe wastewater from the Mahia Beach township over the hill to oxidation ponds to be treated and then irrigated onto HBRC-owned land. This should be up and running by June next year.
Some Mahia residents’ wastewater discharge permits expire on 31 May 2013 and all going well will transfer to the new sewage scheme straight away. However in case the project is delayed HBRC is asking Mahia residents to lodge their new completed wastewater applications as a safety net by the end of November this year.
Residents are not required to send a deposit with their application.
All affected residents should have already received an application form. Anyone with questions should contact HBRC Principal Consents Officer, Charlotte Drury on 06 833 8058.
