State highway 29 near Maungatapu Bridge now open with reduced speed limit
State Highway 29 near the Maungatapu Bridge is now fully open with a temporary reduced speed limit of 50 km/h, advises the NZ Transport Agency.
“All lanes are now open, the speed limit has been reduced as we still need to permanently secure the bridge railing damaged in yesterday’s serious crash, this 50 km/h speed limit will be in place until repairs are completed”, says Highways Manager Brett Gliddon.”
Mr Gliddon says in the interim temporary fencing has been erected to secure the damaged bridge railing.
“We thank drivers for their assistance and patience during the closure and while we repair the damaged bridge railing,” says Mr Gliddon.
Motorists can find information about most road closures, detours and road works by calling the NZTA’s free phone on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards which people may come across during their travels.
