Regional Council Sworn In, Chairman Elected
Cr Fenton Wilson has been re-elected as Chairman of Hawke's Bay Regional Council and sworn in.
Cr Christine Scott was elected as Deputy Chairman.
The new Hawke’s Bay Regional Councillors made their declarations in front of a packed Council Chamber.
As well as friends and families of the Councillors being present, there was a delegation from Central Hawke’s Bay of approximately 200 people showing their support for the proposed Ruataniwha Water Storage Scheme.
At the inaugural Regional Council meeting for the next three year term Councillors Rick Barker (Hastings), Peter Beaven (Ngaruroro), Tom Belford (Hastings) , Alan Dick (Napier), Rex Graham (Hastings), Debbie Hewitt (Central Hawke’s Bay), Dave Pipe (Napier), Christine Scott (Napier), and Fenton Wilson (Wairoa) were sworn in by HBRC’s Interim Chief Executive, Liz Lambert.
Cr Wilson was re-elected as Chairman by a majority of Councillors (5/4). He was nominated by Cr Dick and seconded by Cr Scott. The other nomination for Chairman was for Cr Barker, a new councillor, who was nominated by Cr Graham, seconded by Cr Beaven.
Councillors will adopt standing orders and discuss the membership of committees at the first ordinary Regional Council meeting set for Wednesday 6 November.
