Test for region’s emergency text alert system

26 September 2014

The Bay of Plenty’s emergency text and email alerting systems will be testedthis Sunday with a mass text and email sent to everyone who has signed up for the alerts.

The test message will clearly indicate that it is a test. Anyone can sign up for free on Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management’s webpage,www.bopcivildefence.govt.nz

The test, to be sent at 10am on Sunday, 28 September, is part of national Civil Defence Get Ready Week, a time to check how ready you, your family or your business is to manage in an emergency. The theme of this year’s Get Ready Week, 21-27 September, is ‘What would you do?’
Bay of Plenty Regional Manager of Civil Defence Emergency Management Clinton Naude said this week was a good time for families to check their emergency plan and make sure everyone knows what to do.

“Check what’s in your emergency kit, replace water or food that may be dated, make sure your business’s emergency plans are up to date. Think about what you would do in an emergency if it happened while you’re out and about at home, at work or shopping,” he said.

Clocks also go forward to summer daylight saving time at 2am this Sundaymorning.
